Wallet Generation Flaw 'Ill Bloom' Exploited, Exposing Thousands of Accounts to Risk

The wallet generation vulnerability 'Ill Bloom' has reportedly been exploited, leaving thousands of accounts still exposed to risk. The damage is understood to span Bitcoin, Ethereum and its L2s, Tron, and Solana wallets.

According to PANews, Coinspect Security said the 'Ill Bloom' vulnerability is being exploited by attackers and could lead to the theft of funds from affected wallets.

Coinspect explained that the flaw has affected multiple blockchain wallets since 2018, and vulnerable wallets were still being generated until just a few weeks ago. It was not an issue limited to a single software wallet, the firm noted.

According to Coinspect, as of May 27, about $3 million had been stolen from hundreds of accounts, and roughly $2 million more was transferred out of exposed wallets in recent hours.

Coinspect released a tool for checking affected addresses and urged wallet providers to integrate detection for vulnerable mnemonics. SlowMist CISO 23pds also said the team is tracking the risks tied to the related randomness flaw and advised users to check whether they had used old mnemonics in the past.
